The Blocks for all MGBs are interchangeable so the use of any
piston\rod combination is doable. The pistions have three types of
wristpins. Theres a 3main berring version for the real old Bs a floating
pin version used to aprox. 1972, this is my fovrite pin config. with a set
of 1971 straight plit rods (the straight rods were lighter than the angular
rods which require a retainer to keep the bolts in place, no fun when these
come out) the later type wrist pin is a press fit pin that requres a tool
to remove. The last type pin is what your car would have. I've only found
these in 8.0:1 CR but If you changed to older rods then you can run 8.75:1
easily. The easier method to raise your CR is to shave 1/6" from the head
as recomended by BL special tuning. Of corse all of tis would make your car
Illegal for SCCA Autocrossing in any thing but a prepared or modifed car
but would be manageble on the street. The Quikest way to improve the late
model B is to chage the carb and exaust. Switch over to a webber and a
header. I've used the 45 dcoe carb but a 32/36 dgev ar dgav weber if very
god for the street. Removing the Zenith Stromberg carb will require the
use of an older exaust manifold or a header. You will see the biggest
increase from changing the carb. You can also use a pair of older SU's if
you realy like to tinker with carbs alot. The maximum HP I've heard of in
an MGB is about 130 HP with a full race prep engine, not good for those
sunday afternoon drives with the top down. I've driven a '68 MGB with a
full race cam, ported head, headers, and dcoe weabers on the street but you
wont have a verry easy driver.
I've skipped using the V8 bushings infaver of urethane and I've now
swiched to nylatron. The urethane bushings seemd good for the street and
last alot longer than the stock rubber their alot easier to install than
the V8 bushes.
You might want to call Moss motors or Victoria british and request a
catalog. Both have a very good selection of performance parts.
