What kind of autocrossing and how competitive are you (not the car)?
Autocrossing close to stock Sprites and MGBs is darn fun. You'll
tear up the big Healys and MGs in local club type events. But, if
you move up to SCCA, the tables are going to turn in a hurry. In my
Sprite on the Pennsylvania circuit, I found myself up against much
stiffer competition, Hondas and the Sprite's arch nemesis, the Dodge
Colt. The darn Colts are front wheel drive, have dual-range gear boxes,
modern suspensions, and synchro first gears. I've never seen a stock
Spridget come close to touching them. If you want to be
competitive in SCCA autocrossing in stock class, you probably want
a Honda or a Colt. Of course, then your driving a Honda or a Colt,
and at least for me, that really isn't the point.

Can someone else comment on which modern car chews up the stock
MGB?
