Would someone please explain to me how electric tachometers are
supposed to work? Mine doesn't. After a trip to the instrument shop
didn't cure its random needle movements (and a loaner tach substituted
while mine was in the shop exhibited the same behavior), I've come to
suspect that the trouble isn't in the tach at all but in the signal its
getting. So I'd like to know enough about them to figure out what kind
of signal it expects, what could be causing its current flakey
behavior, and what to do about it. Any help would be appreciated.
Of course, it would really help if there were someone in the greater
Seattle area with access to some fancy instrumentation (and knowledge
thereof) who could hook my Europa up to a scope so we could just see
what going on ...
