on various topics from the brit-car net:
1 re Clutch that will not release:
there are a number of things that can cause a (more or less)
properly assembled clutch to hang up. First is any rust or dings
or a worn step in the pilot shaft. Another is rust on the pressure
plate or fly wheel. Even in relativly dry California I have seen
a little condensation produce rust on a freshly ground fly wheel.
Happily I have always been able to "brake them loose" by push starting the
car in gear and disengaging the clutch.
2 If my memory is correct a Judson was a belt driven axial
supercharger usualy found on small displacement cars in the mid '50s.
It would have used the SU carb, but you could probably bolt on a
Webber with adaption. You might con sider one of the dual choke
down draft webbers that comes with progressive linkage. There are
adapters to bolt them on to a SU flange. The last car I remember seeing
a Judson on was a ratty TC-MG.
3 re Cretins and car work
The one thing worse then having a cretin refuse to work on your car
parts, is having a cretin work on your car parts. So maybe he did you a favor.
4 number of passengers:
My wife and I and 3 kids drove 800 miles in a Triumph tr4. It was part
of a 1200 mile round trip from San Francisco to Mexico. It was a big relief
to carivan for 400 miles with friends who had room for the kids in there
van.
