I have asked this question before, but didn't get much
response. The cd carb on my spitfire runs too rich. No matter
what I do, it always runs better with the needle adjusted
fully lean. In fact, it runs noticably better.
I would REALLY like to get the thing to work. What is the deal
here? I have tried two different carbs and they both came off
cars that had less than 50,000 miles on them. I can't believe
the jet would be worn out already. I tried replacing the needle,
but it made no difference. i have also tried adjusting the level
in the float chamber. I have found that If really lower it I can
get the right mixture at idle, but the car performs poorly at higher
rpms and is very hard to start. The float is new, the carb is
clean and it has new gaskets. Perhaps I have reassembled the intake
manifold too well and I should introduce some vacuum leaks!? The
only non-stock items on the engine are a header and 9:1 compression
pistons (as of yet...).
