Cutters was the name of a bike team in the movie Breaking Away filmed
here in lovely Bloomington, IN. Tree City USA.
It is in reference to the local yokel population of stone-cutters, a
profession which is now pretty much altogether gone, though there
are many quarries around here.
Every spring they ahve this bike race called the Little 500 which is
basically an excuse for every college student/redneck with time on
their hands for miles around to come into Bloomington and trash the
place. A few years ago they had riots where cars were turned over,
mailboxes burned (lots of mailboxes in one big thing at an apartment
complex) fights with police, etc.
There is usually a team called Cutters in the race every year since the
film came out.
Ob Brit-car: Last night I got my new seats in the car with the new carpet.
It is amazing the difference it makes! My Dad paid a guy in Texas
$179 to completely rebuild the seats. This was with vinyl (which is nice)
and I originally had leather, but I figure the vinyl will last longer.
That's the last big project for this year. Next year it will be
floorpans and engine rebuild time. I am planning on getting a tubular
exhuast manifold made and a few other light spec changes that should result
in about 40bhp gained.
Then a windshield, then mini-lites, then ....
