Fer sure! Much cheaper. All you need is a tiny fitting on the engine, a
length of cheap tubing and a bourdon-tube gauge on the dash. That's what
you get with the rock-bottom basic hang-on gauges from the "Automotive"
section of the local department store.
Actually, when all is said and done, I've found this mechanical design to
be much more reliable than the new-fangled electrical sending units anyway.
