\More likely, the phrase came from General Gordon Bennet of WW2, whose bad
\decisions greatly contributed to the British losing Singapore to the Japanese.
So Yanks should say "Doug MacArthur"! That absolute jackass was 100%
responsible for the same result in the Philippines. He knew the Japanese were
likely to attack NINE HOURS before they did. His foolishness caused the loss
of aircraft and bases that actually hurt the resistance to the Japanese far
worse than the losses at Pearl Harbor. This caused the war to last far longer
and cost the lives of hundreds of thousands of people of many nationalities,
including American and Japanese. I can't understand how he got to be
considered a hero. He should have been busted. The commanders at Pearl got
busted, and they did not screw up as badly as MacArthur. In fact, MacArthur
knew much more about the situation before the attacks, and was instrumental in
keeping that information from the Pearl Harbor commanders.
Sorry. I know this is not britcar stuff, just something I got charged up about
whilst in Hawaii to check out my Europa's roots. (Joke. Actually I was there
to hear my Dad speak at a seminar. The Europa being from there was
coincidence.)
