It seems as if my good idea about documenting all
of the prep work on Redcar in getting it ready for the
La Carrera Classic road race has been superseded by
actually doing the work. I meant well anyway.
          Well, with a week to go, I'll pen a quick update;

Done: Fitted an electric cooling fan. Big pain, as I
could find no fan small enough in diameter to fit into
the cross-flow shroud. What I ended up doing was taking
a 10" fan and making up mounting brackets that mount it
inside the bonnet ductwork itself. It took one full
evening of work just to make up the brackets & drill
all the holes so that when the bonnet is closed the fan
is aimed up at the rad. Finished it up last night, and
wired it into a key-off toggle on the dash. Works like
a charm and I'm now ready to tackle the hottest
plains. Or the Milpitas corridor at rush hour.

-Mostly fitted the Panhard. I went ahead & dropped the
tank (using this as an opportunity to replace the
sending unit & paint the whole thing), which made
accessing this area *much* easier. Lined the whole
shebang up & drilled many holes. Spent a considerable
amount of time crawling back & forth, inside the boot &
under the car, to get all the bolts tight. Replaced the
tank (& filters while I was under there), & now I just
have to drill the holes that go thru the tank flange &
     put the bar itself on.

-Pulled out all of the ugly green indoor-outdoor
carpet, pulled the driver's seat. The idea here was to
wire brush & Hammerite the floors, then put the carpet
& driver's seat back in, but right now it looks like
I'll have bare floors for the race.

     Gotta do:
     -Finish Panhard installation.
-Upgrade roll cage hardware to Grade 8's.
     -Tune up, & oil change.
-Fix horn (don't laugh, when one of the course
instructions is "cows on the course", a horn becomes a
     mandatory piece of safety equipment)
     -Secure a tow vehicle.

     Liketa do:
-fab a motor steady rod (header bumps into the floor
     under hard acceleration)
     -Lean out Weber a bit
     -buff it out
     -install carpets

By our current schedule, we are supposed to be leaving
San Jose exactly 1 week from right now. I'll update
progress until Friday, when I go on vacation. After
that, the next posting will be on Tuesday, 6/30, with a
     full race report !

               cheers-
