Last Night I tore into my TR4A to see why my right-rear brake was
ineffectual and, as I had suspected, I was greeted by a slurry of
brake-grime and gear-lube when I removed the drum... "No problem",
thought I, "I'll just replace the two little seals along the axle-
shaft and tube". _THEN_ I open up the manual and read that I must
use 'Special Tool M86A' to separate the hub from the axle-shaft.
My first reaction is to think to myself that I ought be able to work
around this little inconvenience with a bit of backyard engineering,
but reading on in the manual I note: "There is no other way to
remove the hub from the axle shaft".
Has anyone else dealt with this problem before? Do I _REALLY_ have
to get ahold of 'Special Tool M86A' to get my beloved roadster back
into daily use, or is there another method that (if carefully executed)
can extract the hub without ruining it?
-Steve (maybe 'Special Tool M86A' is a 6-lb hammer) Bender-
P.S. Does anyone want a set of slightly used but well-lubed brake shoes
for a TR4? :~)
