We have a late night program here in OZ called "The world tonight" (doesn't
everybody :-) It has a special feature once a week called "MY CAR" where
they feature "antiques". About a month ago they did the SS. From what
my dimming memories tell me the name was changed from SS after WWII due
to the bad associations people has with the SS and Germany.

Apparently before the war they had a reputation as a "light/small"
relatively inexpensive sports car. The war slowed/stopped production
and when things got going again they changed the name and the design.

PS: I'm still looking around for a XJS or XJ6 and still interested in
any info people can give me on the 1975-1985 Jaguar range. PS, I saw
a 1983 Manual XJ6 with a "factory" 4-5 speed (can't remember) don't see
a lot of those. Yes Scott Fisher #1, it was British racing green with
tan leather interior :-) On reflection I should have brought it :-(
