Jim TenCate asks about thermostats:
are all thermostats pretty much equal?
**** Well, four-cylinder Triumphs used a "Smiths" thermostat that had a ring
on the back to close off a passage that bypassed the water pump. A "standard"
thermostat will work in those cars, but not as well as the genuine article.
Sounds like Honda's "two-stage" thermostat is meant to lessen thermal shock
to the cylinder head when that cold water rushes in. Maybe they forsaw
problems with cylinder head cracking?
