I used to have poor luck rebuilding the girling cylinders. My bain was the
clutch slave cylinder on the Land Rover. It faced down & wouldn't keep
fluid in longer than 6 months. I would carefully clean the cylinder, flush
the fluid, hone the cylinder & put in new rubber after wiping new fliud
onto the cylinder walls. I used only Girling brake fluid. I finally gave
up and purchased a brand new girling cylinder. When I opened it to make
sure that it was properly lubercated, I noticed that there were no cross-
hatch hone lines. Unstead the inside of the cylinder was polished mirror
smooth. I took the hint, shelved the new cylinder, polished the inside of
my old cylinder, & rebuilt it. 3+ years later, no leaks & my spare cylinder
is still on the shelf. Every cylinder I rebuild is now polished. Not one
has sprung a leak yet.
