Alpine + Pinto = Alto.
My first brit-convertible, fitted with a 2.0l pinto
motor, and if that wasn't bad enough, a C-4 automatic
trans ! Done by the previous owner who said it was
easier to do the swap than replace another starter on
the original motor. (I've heard they're bad). Swap done
relatively bad; The expansion tank was omitted, so to
add coolant to the rad you had to pull a hose, shifter
*just>* cleared the dash when in park (many skinned
knuckles), Air cleaner would contact hood on hard
acceleration, etc. Nevertheless I loved it, and spent
the better part of two years dialing it in. Rebuilt the
motor (pumped up quite a bit), went from wires to
steels (stay on better), new paint, rollbar, etc. It
ended up being a tidy, fast, persnickety car full of
hidden rust that I let go for 1K cash. Hardly even
covered the machine work on the motor-
