Another great thing about the weekend of the Historics was just walking
around Monterey looking at the cars people drove to Monterey.
I saw my first and second of the new Lotus Elan (nice looking), plenty
of Ferraris of all flavors, some Lamborghinis, a handful of Austin
Healys, one large Rolls Royce touring car, and numerous other interesting
and exotic autos.

The Rick Cole Auction was another interesting event to peer into. If you
want to watch a tuxedoed auctioneer and groups of well-dressed
bidders tossing out enormous sums of money, this is the place to be.
It's truly an experience to look at a person and watch him calmly offer
to exchange what must be the lifetime earnings of some average American
families for a used shiny red sports car.

Next year I too will attend more than just one day's races. This year I
caught the Sunday races and, as you'd gather from Scott's posting, they
were terrific!

Now if I'd only spend some time at home I could probably get my valves
adjusted, head torqued, and carbs tuned and get back out on the road.
I hope to be ready for Palo Alto!
