I've also used the crank on starter with no plugs approach, with good
results.
Recently a friend loaned me a metal pressure bottle, which he uses to prime
engines. He puts a quart of oil in it, attaches it to the oil gallery, and uses
air pressure to force the oil in to prime the bearings and fill the oil
filter and cooler. I'm going to use it on an engine I'm putting together
now.

On a related subject: What are experianced engine builders favorite
assembly lube??? I have often used a thin coat of STP on bearings.
I don't normally have much use for for STP but it dose hang in there
between the time that I assemble the engine and the time I first
start it. Recently I decided to get modern and switch to a MolybdenumDisulfide
'assembly lube, but it made the oil so black that it was not possible
to see if the oil was loading up with other stuff (like metal) when I had a
problem. The engine I am building Now I'm consideriassembly lube.
So, what are you folks(scones?) using and with what luck?

I'm looking forward to your answers/thanks/dickn
