In fact, it a good idea to change the antifreeze every year or two also.
A while back my Chevy van started leaking at one of the freeze plugs.
The old plug had corroded through even though I've always kept a 50-50
coolant mix in the radiator. I'm not sure if somehow combustion
products contaminates the coolant or something in the glycol breaks down
but I've since found out that this is a common occurrence.
