This is actually a repost of a netnews message I posted a week or two ago...
My '74 (MK IV) spitfire (recently purchased) gets 22-23 MPG. Is this normal?
It has good compression, passed smog check, does not burn oil, smoke, etc. I
have no idea what mileage to expect. Note that `72 spits had no
air pump, catalyst, EGR, etc.
For spit owners in the bay area:
Currently I am trying to figure out a number of funny noises and vibrations
that come from the driveshaft, differential, and/or rear axle bearings.
It would be real nice if a more experienced person would ride in my car
and listen, or I could ride in a "known good" (or at least known
"not-too-messed-up") spitfire, so I could get a better handle on the
situation. Please call if you're interested. I sometimes drive my car
to work here in Santa Clara.
