On my Spitfire there is a device called the something-centering
unit. It equalizes hydraulic pressure on the two sides of the
car's brake system. To reset it you do something like try to
bleed the diagonal brake from the one just bled, push on the brake
pedal steadily hard until a click is heard/felt, then close the nipple.
I have never done this, I just happened to see it while
flipping through the manual the other day. I am not sure if this is
one of things that had already been mentioned, but seems intuitively
that it might be the problem - if you have one of these gizzmos on your
TR.
