Regarding whether the halfshaft can be salvaged, the last time I lost one,
I drove immediately *home*, for a distance of maybe 6 blocks, not 30 miles
to the shop. Then I took the halfshaft/rear suspension assembly to the shop.
If he drove further than a mile, he may need the new halfshaft.

However, I happen to have a complete one-side-but-I-don't-remember-which
halfshaft/suspension assembly sitting in my garage taking up space. Mike,
you are in the Boston area, aren't you? I don't know how easily you can
swap one left to right, but you are welcome to mine for a very reasonable
price! If it is the wrong side, at least the halfshaft itself could be used,
I would imagine. And maybe you could just take the vertical link apart (one
bolt!) and attach yours to my trunnion, then attach your brake backplate,
since that is probalby not the same left to right.

Give me a call tonight or tomorrow night. 617-891-0258.
