If parts aren't available, it is possible to get the DMV to grant you a
permanent exemption. A friend with a '72 Dino is working this avenue --
there was no air pump on the car when he bought it, and there are none
to be had. It's apparently a pain -- you need to fail smog twice and
visit the adjustment station (which is a ways away, of course), but
then you get an exemption for the duration of ownership!
How is your normal smog station going to ge able to tell whether the
lucas or allison ignition system was standard? How many are really goign to
care?
