Someone (I can't decipher the header) writes: Speaking of octane, has anyone had experience with mixing leaded regular and unleaded premium? The theory is that the result should have higher octane than the unleaded rating. --- end citation I've tried this in the 10:1 compression 'cuda, and it didn't seem to make too much of a difference; note that I didn't try futzing with the timing to take advantage, and that at the time the car had a very silly camshaft that basically was all overlap (previous owner wanted a 'race cam') so that the cylinder pressures stayed pretty low at RPMs that would still allow one to hear pinging :-). Additionally, I remember reading a year or so ago that the reduced lead available in current leaded gas was insufficient to allow the octane 'pushing' effect that mixing might have. Try it for yourself, though - I for one would appreciate knowing your results. ed devinney |
