Someone (I can't decipher the header) writes:

Speaking of octane, has anyone had experience with mixing leaded
regular and unleaded premium? The theory is that the result should have
higher octane than the unleaded rating.

I've tried this in the 10:1 compression 'cuda, and it didn't seem to make
too much of a difference; note that I didn't try futzing with the timing
to take advantage, and that at the time the car had a very silly camshaft
that basically was all overlap (previous owner wanted a 'race cam') so that
the cylinder pressures stayed pretty low at RPMs that would still allow
one to hear pinging :-).

Additionally, I remember reading a year or so ago that the reduced lead
available in current leaded gas was insufficient to allow the octane 'pushing'
effect that mixing might have.

Try it for yourself, though - I for one would appreciate knowing your results.
