Saw some neat cars at the Montrose (Colorado) CMC autocross, including a
Mini Moke running in G Stock! Hope some of the pictures turn out. Also
saw a Sprite (not Bugeye) for only $995, pretty rough, a couple of TVRs
in the car show, etc.
Speaking of TVRs, anyone want a 77 2500M, great condition, about $9,000?
How about a TR-6 tub restoration project? Apparently the previous owner was
getting serious about a frame off job, had the frame sandblasted and powder
coated. The tub is back on it, no drivetrain, no suspension, most of the
body parts. Haven't seen it myself just yet but may go look soon. Just
what I need, isn't it?
Regarding tire and wheel sizes, TR2-3 cars had 4" wide wheels, 165-15 tires.
The 4 and 4A had 4.5" wide, 165-15 tires. TR5 and 6 had 5.5" wheels, 185-15
tires. I think the Goodyear radial option first appeared on the TR4, I would
have to check. The 4-6 cars have quite a bit of room in the wheelwells, it
sometimes surprises folks how much tire you can fit under there. You should
see the white car with the 8.5" wheels barely sticking out from under it.
I believe the largest tires I ran on my TR6 were 215-60/15 radials, I have a
set of 225/50 15 tires on 6.5" rims I will put on my 4A RealSoonNow for summer
use (I think those might be the ones one the car when I sent you that picture,
Chris)
I usually don't care if the speedo works or not, so I pay little attention to it
and errors. If I want to relate revs to MPH I measure the rolling circumference
of the tire and calculate a revs -> speed conversion. Maybe some day I will
worry about getting a better speedo. Perhaps if I want to try the rally at the
VTR convention...
