John,
Yes, I switched the two lines to the passenger side solenoid. I didn't move
the base of the valve so the flow is now reversed. I can't see the bottom of
the solenoid to tell is there is an arrow.
The problem started several months ago and gradually got worse. I hadn't done
anything to the air system so the problem wasn't the result of any change I
made. In troubleshooting the problem, I unscrewed the solenoid and made sure
the valve moved freely (which it always did). I tried putting some light oil
on it and later, when someone mentioned that could cause binding, I cleaned it
up. Neither made any difference.
It appears that the solenoid works in either direction, but well in one and
poorly in the other. Although it is puzzling that it worked for the 25 years I
have owned the car and only had problems recently.

Scott,
If I understand you correctly, you switched the two line at attach to
passenger
side solenoid.
It that's the case, didn't you just turn reverse the solenoid?
When was the last time you had the solenoids out? How long has the pass.
door been giving you problems?
I found out the hard way (Rick of HTC told me) the solenoids are
directional.
If you look very carefully you'll see an arrow etched in them. I
believe it was on
the bottom of the solenoid.
I don't remember if my doors were doing what your's were. I think mine just
leaked air as the pressure came up. I don't remember. It's been
quite some time.
