Greg: I had an alternator problem caused by leaking (partially shorted) diodes, alternator charged great, battery ran down after about 3 days. You can check that with ignition off, easy way is to feel the alternator, it gets warm, second way is to disconnect the hot lead to the alternator and then touch it to the terminal, if the diode problem you'll draw a spark.
