You were a couple of years younger than I was when I started mine.  I was 
about 18 when I started with the TR3s.

I'd thought about the  "Avenger GT-12" model but didn't think the VWs had
much guts.  However, I must admitt that with the Corvair eng. that would
have been quite a sleeper!!!
