Carb Spacers

Vin 1628 will receive a new carb this spring.   Current plan is the 2bl Holley 
option 
with my stock manifold.  I see that many high performance suppliers claim 
improved hp with the use of spacers (between carb and manifold).  Can anyone 
speak to such claims?  Are there any specific recommendations (type, etc.)?
