Hey David,
I also installed the Edelbrock 1406. No modifications needed or adapter
plate for the install or linkage connections. I did buy a 1" spacer to
replace the original one I removed. Not sure if it was really needed or not
but I don't think the linkage would have cleared the manifold without it.
Still working with the choke adjustments but I haven't moved the jet or idle
screws and #385 has never run as good as it does now.
Got the carb at Summit Racing for around $260. Spacer I purchased locally.

David,
I believe the most common replacement is the Edelbrock 1406 600 CFM. I
believe there is also a common Holley replacement. Not sure on the model.
I believe the doorstop comment is really related to the technology at the
time. The newer carbs untilize knowledge learned over the years. Kind of
like year 2000 technology vs. 1970's technology. Supposedly better
performance and MPG. I have installed the edelbrock and it is working fine.
I have not really driven except around the neighborhood so I cannot confirm
the MPG claims. You can get some information from Edelbrock's web site.

Subject: Best carb for the AMC 360
My 360 presently has a Motorcraft carb on it. I remember reading from some
of the members that the Ford carb would be better used as a doorstop. I'm a
bit comfused. Could someone tell me why this is, did the original engine
come with a Motorcraft carb? Is there a better carb out there for the AMC
360? Could any 4 barrel carb be used? Where would I look to find more info
on changing a carb from one to another ie, adaptor plates etc.?
Thanks again for the needed help everybody.
