They are nice and simple, but they're going to be very slow (maybe slower
than the hydraulics, definitely slower than air) AND subject the door to
much more stress than the air system. The air system acts like a suspension
for the door when it's open. If there's a hard wind blowing on the open
door, or if it's being moved with the door in the up position, there could
be non-trivial forces pushing up and down on the door. The air ram acts
like a bit of a spring to allow the door to move up and down a bit so it's
not subjected to such severe twisting and bending forces.

Note that this is also an advantage that the air system has over the
hydraulic system.

Hope this helps,

Hi,

Has anyone tried putting in Electrical Actuators to replace the cylinders
that move the doors up and down?
For example:
http://www.edrivedesign.com/

Saw them on "Monster Garage" of all places and think they might work
perfectly. No more air system problems if these are a go.
