i built a sailboat and sailed to mexico a couple of times. when asked
by someone about building vs. buying, the answer seemed obvious. if you
want to build a boat build one. if you want to go sailing, buy one. i
think most of the unfinished projects result from people who want the
product not the process and experience. no judgements; but if you want
to drive around in a bricklin buy one. if you want the satisfaction of
restoring a bricklin, find a project.
while looking at boats with a broker one day, he pointed out a boat that
a guy made (and it looked pretty good). he went out sailing a couple
times and then sold the boat. soon after, he started building another
boat. seems he liked building more than sailing. surely many who would
restore a model A would not want to drive it to work every day.
i write to the list every once in a while but i don't think many people
get them. maybe just as well.
