  Yes, this is a common problem.  There are several reasons for it:
1. The old window channel insulation (or what ever you call it) is shot.
   It is a rubber base with a fuzzy felt like substance against the window.
   As the fuzzy wears away, the rubber will touch and stick to the glass
   making it hard to roll up the windows.
2. As the above happens, the window regulators will bend.  This makes matters
   worse.
The fix is to replace the fuzzy stuff, and have the regulator reinforced.
