Door Latch

Has any one experienced this?
The door release latch's metal plate is hitting the rear screw that
holds the "D" loop in place on the down cycle, and makes a disturbing
sound. How or what do I adjust to give more clearance? The screw does
sit up a little and they are the original philips screws. Other than
replacing the original screws for a lower clearance one, does any one
have a suggestion?
