A "kit car" is a car body (in many parts...thus a kit) designed to replace
the body of a manufactuered car, usualy a VW because the body comes off so
easily. Thery are also sometimes made to go on Pintos, Nissan, Sunbirs, and
others but the VW is most popular. Check out my website to see a Jaguar
SS-100 kit on a VW chassis.

Some kit cars come with a "kit chassis" that you assemble yourself.

Until recently there were only the Mercedes 300SL, the Bricklin SV-1 and the
Delorian in production cars. But recently I think there was a Japanese car
that has gullwing doors. There is a Lamborgini that has doors that swing
up, but they are not true gull wing doors and there were several kit cars
including the Sebring (the old Sebring, not the Austin Healy replica) that
had a swing up top. I had one of those and it looked alot like a Ferrari
304B where the entire top of the car was lifted up and forward on two
electric screws.
