I have three cars in my shop today that were painted by Maaco. I have =
another that I plan to take over to the Layton shop to have done this =
winter. I have nothing but high respect for the folks at the Layton =
Maaco. When I did my 36 English built Hudson the average bid was =
$20,000 from the local shops. They all wanted to do it and said they =
were the best. Paco, at Maaco did the job and it was under 3K. I would =
trust them with any of my car work including fitting a new bumper.
By the way, does any one have a good source for work on wire wheels. I =
have one (or perhaps two) that is bent---

11 to 18K????? Maybe on a Ferrari. Maaco did a perfectly acceptable =
paint job for $395 on a Miata after we did the basic prep work. They =
charged an addition hundred for the jams.
I converted my B from a rubber bumper car to a bumperless old style =
version for about $500 in parts (front and rear Sebring valances). I =
made the plugs for under the tail lights out of foam and fiberglass and =
attached them as extensions to the rear valance. I used the turn signal =
units from the front rubber bumper. Modified an old B grill to finish =
off the job.

There are instructions out there, and a kit from moss. It requires some =
welding and paint. While I can weld, I haven't had much practice since =
my highschool shop classes... I wouldn't want to take a torch to my B! =
And I have no experience with painting and body work. I spoke with the =
shop in Colorado. Most of the work has do be done on the front end of =
the car, the part of mine that isn't damaged... All of the work goes =
for about $2500, and then comes any needed body work and paint... =20
As there is paint work required at both ends, if I don't do the whole =
car, there will be blend marks. I am a bit bummed about that. Painting =
the entire car right runs in the 11,000-18,000 range. =20
I am not looking for a concourse car though, and that much for me on a B =
is out of the question, so I have some $ choices to make. I might end =
up with a rubber bumper car at the end of this yet...

Good news, Andrew. Perhaps someone in the club who has done this =
conversion can help you, rather than hauling it 1000 miles.
How about it, guys. Anyone done this conversion or know who can do =
it locally?
