Let me rephrase my statement.
Not all police forces are created equal. Salt Lake City Corp. Police =
will no do a vin inspection, but the Unified Police in Salt Lake County =
will. I have dealt with them twice in the last four years. =20
If you call the Salt Lake City Police they will give you the phone =
number of the Utah State DMV, 801-297-2600, which will schedule an =
appointment to come to your residence to check your cars vin, or you can =
go in without the car and pay all the fees and get a temporary permit so =
you can drive it in for the vin inspection.
(Thanks Mark for pointing out that SLC Police will not do vin =
Inspections)

For my two cents, I went with GRUVN and I might add you will need to =
have a vin inspection. Your local police officers are more than happy to =
do this for you. The form is on the DMV web site, or you can just take =
your car to the DMV. Either way the inspection is free.

Aaron- I just went through the same process, but with bringing a =
car in from out of state. =20
So if you are having a new Utah title issued like I had to do, you =
have to register it at the time you apply for the title (total >$100).
At that time you need get license plates that ARE NOT =
personalized. These can be vintage plates so that you are not subject to =
semi annual inspection. You will leave the DMV with this set of plates =
in hand. However, only after your new title arrives (2-3 weeks in the =
mail) can you apply for the customized plates. You will need to pay an =
additional $63 for the customized plates which take 4-5 weeks in the =
mail. (It has been 4 weeks today and I'm still waiting for mine).
The vintage application form and search process is online at the =
DMV website. You can actually search by choosing special plate type (in =
this case vintage) and then go through your selections that you are =
looking for to see if they are available. The vintage plates are now =
limited to a total of 5 (no more, no less) alpha numeric characters.
Good luck.
Rich Sanders.

It's pretty easy. I recently did my 70BGT. You don't need a =
safety or emissions. As long as its at least 30 years old. You =
technically only supposed to drive for car shows and club activities. =
But how are they going to know? =20
I think I paid $65 with personalized plates.
BTW, this is my first group email since joining the club. I =
figured I'd just join in on the fun. =20
