     BRIGHAM CITY =97 The exterior walls are up=2C one spire is in place wi=
th another to follow in the next few days=2C and the Angel Moroni will be p=
laced on Tuesday=2C July 12=2C 2011.=20

   But it still will be more than a year before the Brigham City Temple of =
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be complete.=20

   Every day people stop by the temple site to view the progress of the tem=
ple=92s construction.  =20

   Some watch from the viewing area on the corner of the block where the te=
mple is being built=2C while others bring lawn chairs and picnics and watch=
 from the Tabernacle lawn across the street.=20

   =93I think the people are going to be very pleased with how beautiful it=
 is going to be=2C=94 said Sister Michele Peck.=20

   Peck and her husband=2C Elder Gregory Peck=2C of Idaho Falls=2C have bee=
n called to serve as temple missionaries in Brigham City. They are on the c=
onstruction site each day to meet with the public and answer questions.  =20

   The Pecks also conduct church meetings and firesides on request.=20

   Elder Peck also serves as the assistant site manager for the church=2C s=
o he is often reviewing plans and meeting with     contractors.=20

   Sister Peck spends her days journaling the building of the temple=2C tak=
ing photos and recording the details of the construction project. On comple=
tion=2C one copy of her records will be placed within the cornerstone of th=
e temple and another will be preserved in the church archives.=20

   The exterior panels of the Temple are constructed of precast concrete po=
ured into molds in a factory in Sacramento=2C Calif.=20

   This method makes it possible to build each piece to precise specificati=
ons and ensure that each piece is the same quality.  =20

   The brilliant white walls get their color from limestone aggregate and s=
pecial white cement=2C said Sister Peck.=20

   The temple is on four levels=2C which includes a basement where the bapt=
istery will be located.=20

   There will be 220 parking spaces in street-level and underground parking=
.=20

   The front entrance will be on the east side=2C with curved staircases le=
ading to the parking lot.=20

   Current plans call for the use of rock from Weber Canyon to line those s=
taircases=2C the same rock that was used on the exterior of the Tabernacle=
=2C said Sister Peck.  =20

   The east spire weighed 75=2C000 pounds and was constructed of five separ=
ate panels assembled on site. It was placed on the tower June 10=2C 2011.=20

   The top of the spire reaches 163 feet above the ground and is easily vis=
ible above Brigham City=92s tree-covered streets.  =20

   The west spire will be 150 feet from the top of the spire to the ground=
=2C and it is expected to be placed this week.=20

   But the placement of the Angel Moroni is what many people are anxiously =
waiting for.=20

   The sculpture was made by Karl Quilter. According to The Church of Jesus=
 Christ of Latter-Day Saints=2C Quilter has made the vast majority of the a=
ngels for temples since 1954.=20

   Quilter was the speaker at a fireside at the Brigham City Tabernacle on =
Sunday evening=2C 26 June 2011=2C when the placement of the Angel Moroni wa=
s announced.=20

   In a talk that was broadcast to stake centers throughout the temple dist=
rict=2C Quilter presented a slide show and explained the process of creatin=
g Moroni=2C one muscle at a time.=20

   The angel is 12 feet tall and stands on top of a ball that is 18 inches =
tall.=20

   Because the angel is now made out of fiberglass=2C Quilter said=2C the a=
ngels placed on temples now weigh about 267 pounds=2C in comparison to the =
Moroni on the Salt Lake City Temple=2C which weighs 4=2C000 pounds.  =20

   While details about the construction of the exterior components of the 4=
4=2C000-squarefoot temple are readily available=2C Sister Peck said the chu=
rch is releasing few details about the inside.=20

   =93The inside features are very symbolic and more meaningful when viewed=
 as a whole=2C=94 she said.=20

   However=2C she was able to say that the artistic elements inside will hi=
ghlight Brigham City=92s history with a peach blossom theme.  =20
