Help! electric cooling fan conversion

Has any one done an electric cooling fan conversion on thair sprite/midget
mine is a 1275cc
i attempted to put one in and there is not enuff clearance between the
waterpump and the radiator for the fan it is a pretty thin fan but is off by
about 1" is there custom modifaction that needs done to the radiator support
or how can i get this done?
