Autocrossers think it is badly implemented in the VW Passat, electronically 
locking out downshifts in first unless you're going very slowly. But then, that 
is not likely to matter to us porch dwellers. We just put ours in Drive and 
leave it there. Lots of grunt for the street makes trying to remember what gear 
we are in unnecessary.
