OSP - Only Slicks Prohibited

Just got back from the Wendover Pro Solo, just gotta say that David Borden
put on a hell of a driving display this weekend! David finished a very close
second in AP. This is quite an accomplishment considering that the guy in
first place is a multi-year national champion driving a turbo car, Wendover
is above 4,000 ft elevation so non-boosted cars are at quite a power
disadvantage. The winner was on new "sticker" tires, the Borden's started
the event with tires that probably have seen better days. It was a very
tough course that featured a bumpy, rutted, broken up concrete surface (just
like Topeka Nationals), a tight decreasing radius hairpin and then a fast
decreasing 6 or 7 cone slalom. The margin between the AP winner and ASP (won
by the all conquering Gary Thomason) was quite large, 2 to 3 seconds as I
recall (the results are not posted yet for reference). Great job David!

It was interesting to hear from a number of the Prepared class veterans that
they think the FFR Cobra may be the perfect car for A prepared! One former
national champion said that cars like the Borden's IS the future of A
Prepared. So it's not too hard to image that an FFR might do VERY well at
nationals this years, and if it does it sounds like the SCCA would love to
see more of them show up! This will be interesting!

I brought FFR2370 up for it's second autocross with it's new suspension mods
and slicks. All the SAI and suspension mods worked well and didn't fail. I
ended up in 5th place in class (still not last though!) and certainly
learned a quite a few lessons. As California's future govenor would say
"I'll be back"!

Mark,

Thanks for posting the results... Im still recovering from the heat and the
drive back

Folks, what is totally amazing, is Mark with all of 1 autocross on his new
setup, and something like 5 autocrosses in the last few years... traveling
the weeks before the event with little to no time to prepare for the
event... and on a COMPLETELY NEW setup front and rear on his car. LEAD the
day on saturday. He had top time on one of the courses and really put on a
show. He is an extremely smooth and effective driver.

I am extremely happy with how the FFR's faired against arguably some of the
best cars and drivers in the country based on national and divisional
results.

Whats even cooler, was these guys were great to be around. Offering advice
and help the whole weekend.

It is true, they did say the FFR could be the thing to bring AP back for
SCCA's solo II.

Im telling you, these cars are just a BLAST to drive. You cant really get
what I mean until you experience it... a total rush!

Whats amazing, is Marks car is still FULLY streetable. Looks like it could
win a car show. Very clean and neat. Full interior, bright shiny paint, and
the car kicked butt at this level of competition.

Just add some suspension changes to the front, some decent shocks, the right
springs and bars, and slicks and you can play at this level. Simply amazing!

Thanks again Mark for the kind words! It was great hanging with you, Chris,
Steve and Robert this weekend!

David
