I'd like to thank everyone who helped the event run smoothly. This
includes all the folks who helped set up the course quickly in the
morning, the people who offered to switch work assignments to cover
positions or run groups where we were missing people (especially tech
and waivers), and especially all the volunteers who took assignments
after they had already fulfilled their responsibilities. Thanks also
to Brian Nemy, who did miscellaneous tasks during the day and kept the
event chairs informed about what was going on when we couldn't be
everywhere at once. Thanks to Rick Gould for a fun and challenging
course.
The event seemed to run itself for the most part. We are fortunate to
have so many experienced people that the event chairs don't have to
micro-manage every aspect of the event.
We do need to do better in terms of keeping Tech and the Gate staffed
at all times (there should probably be a radio at the Gate, too).
There are blanks on the work signup sheets for these positions, but
they were empty in most of the work groups. The same goes for some of
the Timing/Scoring positions. These are pretty easy assignments --
you get to sit down for most of them. Tech may seem intimidating
because you don't know what to check. That's why we have a checklist,
so you can just go down the sheet and mark the boxes as you check each
item. If you see a lot of empty boxes in the top half of the signup
sheet when you register, please consider signing up for one of those
positions. You don't have to be a hardened veteran to do these jobs.
I know that Jeremy Rine has been pushing for people to sign up for
tech at the registration table...thanks! Keep it up.
Finally I'd like to thank my co-chair Ben Martinez for putting on an
awesome autocross school on Saturday.
