You forgot to mention that part about not talking to anyone because you
forgot to stop for a toothbrush.

OK, you guys are way off. Here's what I do:

San Diego:
- Get off work the usual time on Friday
- Pick up kids
- Pick up trailer
- Pick up car at home
- Pack cloths in a rush (forget to pack toothbrush)
- Get on the road, O... 8ish
- Fight traffic getting out of town
- Haul ass over 152 and grapevine with a 1/2 ton truck pulling a big ol'
gooseneck trailer
- Pull into Irvine around 2am
- Listen to parents giving me the guilt trip about coming late and
leaving early
- Leave Irvine, O...way too early
- Pull into Qualcom barely in time to register and tech
- Pray that your run group is not early in the morning so you can get a
couple of course walks in before you run

Needless to say I've had great success with this routine (missed second
place by a cone in 2002, hit cones on every runs of the first day in
2001).

Topeka:
- Head out of town, O...say around 11:00am on Thursday
- Haul ass all the way to the border of Wyoming the first day
- Get up god awful early and hit the road on Friday
- Synchronize your bladder and your tank to minimize stops
- Hit Friday afternoon traffic in Denver
- Pull into Topeka way late on Friday
- Wake up too early on Saturday to make it to registration and tech for
the pro
- Spend the entire week recovering from the trip there, just in time for
your trip back

First day, 3 runs, 3 cones. 'nough said!
