As has been stated already, the "number of adjustments" refers to the
number of functions that can be adjusted (high speed rebound, low
speed rebound, high speed compression, low speed compression), not the
number of positions on the adjuster.
"External" is anything you can do to the shock without taking it
apart. Compressing the shock and twisting the body is an external
adjustment, even if you have to take the shock off the car to do it.
Disassembling the shock and replacing the hydraulic piston head or
rubber washer stacks is not an external adjustment.
