The cloth snell certification sewn on the chin strap is the appropriate
snell certification. Some manufactureres have elected to use the cloth
cert label.
The decal on back of the helmet is not the Snell certification label.
Any helmet presented without the appropriate snell certification label,
is not an approved helmet and can not be used.
Some sanctioning motorsports organizations either ink out or remove the
snell cert label if the helmet has been involved in a motorsports
incident including dropping the helmet on the ground. Once the lable has
been removed the helmet is no longer certified.
I have seen a couple of people that have tried to pass an unapproved
helmet through Tech with a snell sticker glued on. An approved helmet is
constructed different than an unapproved helmet and you can see the
difference if you know what to look for.
