I'm not older (well, maybe I guess) and I'm sure as hell not wiser, but
I'll second the Kumho recommendation. They're cheaper and they last
longer. More importantly for someone starting out, they're easier to
drive as when they start sliding, they still keep gripping. Hoosiers have
a sharper edge that is harder to feel.
The Hoosiers do have an advantage in that they stick a touch better and
weigh less, but you have to be pretty damn good before that'll matter.
