Think Don McKenna pretty well defined the problem.
The rollover at 3 Com was in 1994 at the Divisional, yours truly
chair and course designer. Josh Hadler was the driver and he has since
acquired a 914 (considerably lower than his VW), moved to the Denver area,
and become a Solo Safety Steward.
The course section in question was changed from Saturday, making it
smoother rather than a tight right-hander. The only explantion I've been
able to think of in the ensuing time frame is that Hadler paniced, backed
off the gas, and delivered the FWD version of trailing throttle oversteer.
(I'd seen some Renault Cup cars do the same thing at Laguna Seca during an
IMSA race.) Hadler doesn't remember.

At the 1999 Solo II Nationals, a FWD car flipped on a downhill
section which had a slalom followed by a tight right hander that included a
BUMP. Don't look for it on the
map. The course was changed AFTER the map was printed to solve a separate
problem. The driver was VERY aggressive. Coincidentally I took photos of
him on a prior run entering a prior turn which shows BOTH left-side wheels
off the ground as he entered a 90 degree left turn.
