Why even a $10 fine? How can they charge you anything if you didn't violate
any law? Seems that if you showed that your car was under the limit, there
should be no charges.

I'm glad to report that after going to court and presenting
the dB levels as measured by Charlie, I got my "modified exhaust"
ticket down to $10 (instead of $142). Actually, I was trying to
get a trial date, but $10 seemed way better than wasting another
day in court.
Just a heads up -- you never know when those sound readings may
come in handy.
