Katie, I think that Jerry is being intentionally ironic: showing how
absurd it is to propose changes which will reduce rookie attendance by
turning it around against non-rookies.
I personally am not reacting favorably to the folks who think that I'm
not worth having around because I'm new and don't go to every race.
Frankly, it's not making me want to get more involved. To the people
complaining that rookies aren't getting involved and helping out: want
to kill off any chances of that happening? Keep discussing how to
eliminate them on the public mailing list.
If you really want to reduce attendance, the most efficient way is to
focus on getting rid of the folks who DO go to every race! Getting
rid of one-timers is only 1/16th as effective as getting rid of a
fanatic. Maybe Jerry is onto something here...
With regards to on-site registration with quotas, that is sure to
discourage attendance. I'd rather drive two hours to Sac and be assured
of running than drive an hour to an SFR event and have a good chance
at being bounced.
