Ross Hansel died Aug. 21, 2000 in Red Lodge, Montana.

Former San Francisco Regional Executive Ross Hansel died of cancer at his
retirement home in Red Lodge, Montana. The best guess of his age is 67-69.
Mr. Hansel was RE in the mid-'70s, serving approximately three
years-1974-1976. After retiring from the RE post he was elected to the
National Board of Directors twice. Reflecting his day job as a bean counter
with Chevron/Standard Oil, SCCA National made him treasurer of the National
club.
However, he caused more than a little consternation when he, in a
fit of pique, resigned his Directorship prior to completion of his first
three-year term but after being elected to a second term. He had second
thoughts and announced he would show up at the convention to be sworn in
for his second term but was informed that he should not show up.
After club politics came his Formula 5000 Eagle race car and later
a Corvette which he raced at Laguna Seca, etc.
After his retirement from Chevron in San Francisco, he and Judy
moved to Red Lodge approximately four years ago.
Yours truly served on the region's Board when he was RE. On the
National Board one of the key things he accomplished was the check-off on
the member application form which is used to determine member interest and
how dues money is distributed. Prior to that time the Solo II program was
always listed at a loss because Solo II member dues were counted as
"administrative" income.
He is survived by his widow, Judy Hansel, and a son, Doug Hansel.
