Joei was the driver of the black XK-E Saturday, and I thought it would be OK
to share her impressions with the group -- this was posted to the national
E Type list.. (OK, Joei?)

I went to Golden Gate Fields in Albany, CA this weekend to watch the
autocross. Jerry Mouton tightened some spokes on The Black and declared I
was ready. So I paid my fees and borrowed a helmet and away I went.
Away is right. I realize, I have done very little 'spirited' driving
before, now that I've tried this. I had the back end of the E swinging
around some turns and couldn't resist yelling YaHoooo. The E handled like a
dream and I know I could push it some more next time....quite exhilerating I
must say. I was truly amazed at it's ability to accelerate and grip around
those corners as Jerry encouraged me to try.
Jerry took me out for his first run and we did a dounut...he told me that
was NOT the thing to do. I was just following my mentors advice. A couple
of corners when he was in the car were verrrry close to being lost. But as
you said...it's amazing how far you can go .. just about lose it...and then
still pull it back in!! The guy handing out the times thought I deserved
the Award for Having The Best Time...I couldn't stop laughing.
Everyone at SCCA San Francisco Region was very complimentary of the car
(although it was nothing compared to Dick Anderson's beautiful OEW 62 OTS).
(Ginger are you reading this?..the guys were all over this car!) And no one
was surprised I was out trying it on the track...Jerry and Dick have paved
the way.
I smiled All The Way Home and was laughing still on my way to work this
morning. I think the Autocross Bug is alive and well on the West Coast as
well!! Still jazzed and smilin' even
though the Black is in the parking lot outside my window...
