I have a book written in the late '60s about autocross, British style. All
in the vernacular, and describes their autocross, which is kind of like
British football, with lots of mud and bruising contact! They run two cars
at a time on dirt courses, and even then there was considerable
customization - rally cars weren't generally competitive because they were
too heavy. There was a description of what had to be done to a Lotus to
keep it in one piece, and the Kellys and Babbs would probably be physically
ill upon reading it...
